How Long Does Invisalign Take?

Most adult Invisalign cases run 6 to 18 months. What sets the timeline, and how wear time and refinements affect it.

Part of our guide to the invisalign treatment process and timeline.

Most adult Invisalign cases take between six and eighteen months, with the average sitting around twelve. Minor cases (Invisalign Lite or Express, often relapse after childhood braces) can finish in three to six months, while complex bite correction with Comprehensive plans can run to twenty-four months.

What sets your timeline

The number of aligners is the main driver, and your dentist confirms it with ClinCheck after the initial iTero scan. Each aligner is typically worn for one to two weeks. How far your teeth need to move, whether the bite as well as the alignment is being corrected, and how disciplined you are about wear time all change the total.

Wear time is the lever you control

Aligners need twenty to twenty-two hours a day to track to plan. Consistently wearing them less is the most common reason treatment runs long or needs refinements (a second set of aligners to finish the job). Refinements are normal and often included in the fee, but they add weeks.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Invisalign take on average?

Around twelve months for a typical adult case, with most falling between six and eighteen. Minor cases can finish in three to six months; complex bites can take up to twenty-four.

What slows Invisalign down?

Not wearing aligners for twenty to twenty-two hours a day is the main cause of delay, often leading to refinements that add weeks to the plan.
